Coronavirus Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I order my medication?

Medication can be ordered in a few different ways – you can drop your prescription slip into the letter box in the foyer at Trosnant Lodge, you can order via My Health Online or by using the email contact section of the surgery website.  Alternatively you can ask your local pharmacy on your behalf.

Please try not to contact the surgery by telephone regarding your prescription unless it is absolutely necessary.

If your medication request is early, it will not be processed until your due date.  We will not return your request to you but will hold it until it is due.

  • How much medication will I be able to order?

From week commencing 23rd March you will be issued with a 3 month supply of your medication, however these prescriptions will not be able to be collected from the pharmacy all at once as they will be dated for the current month and the following 2 months.

  • Will I still be able to collect my prescription from the surgery?

We are encouraging all patients to have their prescription sent directly to the pharmacy to reduce footfall into the surgery.  When ordering your medication, please also provide details of which pharmacy you would like your prescription to be sent to.

  • Will I still be able to see a doctor or nurse?

If you have been booked for a routine appointment, this will now be taking place over the telephone rather than face to face.

If you have a booked appointment to see one of the nursing team, they will be making contact with you via the telephone before you booked appointment.  They will be trying to deal with as many appointments over the phone as possible, however they will still be seeing some patients face to face.  You will be advised by one of the surgery staff if you should attend your appointment or if it has been cancelled.

If you are feeling unwell and feel that you need to be seen by one of the clinical team, you will be contacted by telephone by one of the clinical team.  They will be trying to deal with as much as they can via a telephone consultation, however if they feel that they need to see you they will book you an appointment at the surgery.  It is important that if you are booked an appointment, that you follow the instructions you are given on what to do when you arrive at the surgery.

  • I think I have coronavirus, what should I do?

If you feel that you have coronavirus please continue to follow the government advice that can be found on the Public Health Website ( https://phw.nhs.wales/topics/latest-information-on-novel-coronavirus-covid-19/ ).

If you feel that your symptoms are worsening or if you feel that you are no longer able to manage your condition at home then please contact the surgery for a telephone consultation with one of the team.

  • Is North Road Surgery going to be closing permanently?

No, the surgery closing is a temporary measure and although we currently don’t have a date that the surgery will re-open, it will be open again in the future.

  • Is there a reason why I am struggling to get through on the phones?

We are currently experiencing a higher volume of calls than usual.  If you are phoning with a query that is not urgent we would encourage you to use the email contact form on the Trosnant Lodge Surgery website.

Please do not call regarding a repeat prescription or medication query, please refer to the advice above regarding requesting medication.

  •  I want to cancel a future holiday, will the doctor write me a letter?

If you want to cancel a holiday due to a medical condition, the doctor will not write a letter to support this. However, if you obtain the appropriate medical cancellation forms from your insurance company the GP will be happy to complete these for you.  There will be a charge for this service.

  • Will I still be able to have my smear / breast screening / bowel screening / diabetic eye screening?

Following advice from the government the above screening services have been postponed until further notice.  If you have received an invitation for screening, there is no need to worry as Public Health will send further reminder letters when the services are back up and running.  HOWEVER if you feel that you are experiencing any concerning symptoms please contact the surgery and a telephone consultation will be arranged with one of our team who will discuss your concerns.

  • I have COPD or asthma and have heard I can have a rescue pack, is this true?

Rescue packs could be prescribed if you are in an at risk category, however you may need to be assessed by a clinician over the telephone before this is prescribed.  If you would like to order or to discuss the possibility of being prescribed a rescue pack then please submit a request for a telephone call via the surgery website email contact page.

If you feel that you are currently unwell and in need of a rescue pack more urgently then please contact the surgery by telephone.

  • I need a sick note as I am self-isolating, do I need to contact the surgery by telephoned to contact my GP?

No, you can now gain access to electronic notes via the 111 website. Please visit https://111.nhs.uk/isolation-note – this will give you an electronic version of the note that you can have sent to a designated email address.
